Crocs Inc. Reports 2012 Third Quarter Financial Results
Company Reports Earnings Per Diluted Share of $0.49 and
Record Third Quarter Revenue of $295.6 million
NIWOT, COLORADO – October 24, 2012 – Crocs Inc. (NASDAQ: CROX) reported today financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2012. Revenue for the third quarter of 2012 increased 7.5% to $295.6 million compared with revenue of $274.9 million reported in the third quarter of 2011. Net income for the third quarter of 2012 was $45.1 million, or $0.49 per diluted share, compared with net income of $30.2 million, or $0.33 per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2011.
From a channel perspective, wholesale sales increased 1.5% to $156.2 million compared with sales of $154.0 million in the third quarter of 2011. Internet sales increased 6.0% to $27.1 million compared with sales of $25.6 million in the third quarter of 2011. Retail sales increased 17.7% to $112.2 million compared with sales of $95.3 million in the third quarter of 2011. The company ended the quarter with 499 retail store locations compared with 410 locations a year ago. Global same store sales for the third quarter of 2012 increased 1.0% on a currency neutral basis, as the Americas increased 5.5%, Europe increased 0.9%, and Asia declined 6.3%.
Sales growth during the quarter was driven by strength in the Americas and Asia. Geographically, revenue increased 7.4% for the Americas, 11.3% for Asia and decreased 2.9% for Europe. On a constant currency basis, revenue increased 8.6% for the Americas, 13.0% for Asia, 7.3% for Europe, and 10.3% globally.
“Our revenue growth during the third quarter reflects the benefit of balanced distribution channels globally. Our direct to consumer channel in the Americas increased 12% on year-over-year basis, highlighted by a mid single digit same store sales gain, and our expanded presence in Asia resulted in a direct to consumer sales increase of 17% in that region,” said John McCarvel, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our Americas and Asia performance helped to more than offset weakness in the European market, where challenging macroeconomic conditions and foreign currency exchange rate fluctuations continue to pressure our results. At the same time, we haven’t been fully immune to some of the recent choppiness in Asia, particularly in Japan, where consumer demand slowed as the third quarter progressed. Despite the economic headwinds we faced during quarter, we continued to grow the business and make strategic progress toward our long-term goal of evolving Crocs into a four-season brand. For the spring summer 2013 season our wholesale pre-books have been strong. We are excited about the prospects for 2013 as enthusiasm for our products continues to grow and our opportunities globally expand.”
Margins
Gross profit for the third quarter of 2012 increased 9.2% to $160.7 million, or 54.4% as a percentage of sales, from $147.2 million, or 53.5% as a percentage of sales in the same period last year. Selling, General, & Administrative expenses (SG&A) increased 8.1% to $120.7 million versus $111.7 million a year ago. As a percentage of sales, SG&A was 40.8% compared with 40.6% in the third quarter of 2011.
Balance Sheet
Cash and cash equivalents at September 30, 2012 increased 41.8% to $312.6 million compared to $220.4 million at September 30, 2011. Inventories at September 30, 2012 were $187.5 million, up 24.1% compared to inventories at September 30, 2011 of $151.1 million. Inventory levels during the third quarter of 2012 were partially driven by the 22% increase in retail store locations in the quarter and the need for additional inventory for the 35 to 40 new store openings planned for the fourth quarter of 2012.
Backlog
Backlog at September 30, 2012 increased 33.2% to $395.4 million compared with backlog of $296.8 million at September 30, 2011. John McCarvel continued “We saw exceptional growth in third quarter of 2012 pre-books as our wholesale customers accelerated their order books to secure sourcing for spring summer deliveries of our hottest new products for 2013, which include the huarache, molded boat shoes, and our women’s wedge line.”
Income Taxes
For the quarter, the company recorded a non-recurring tax benefit of $11.4 million due to a reversal of certain tax provisions and the release of certain valuation allowances associated with deferred tax assets.
Guidance
For the fourth quarter of 2012, the Company expects break-even diluted earnings per share on revenue of $220 million.

NIWOT, COLORADO – February 23, 2012 – Crocs, Inc. (NASDAQ: CROX) today reported financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2011. Revenue for the fourth quarter of 2011 increased 14% to $203.7 million, over revenue of $179.2 million reported in the fourth quarter of 2010. Net income for the fourth quarter 2011 was $5.6 million, or $0.06 per diluted share compared to a net income of $4.7 million, or $0.05 per diluted share in the fourth quarter 2010. Revenue for 2011 increased 27% to $1.0 billion, over revenue of $789.7 million reported in 2010. Net income for 2011 improved to $112.8 million, or $1.24 per diluted share compared to net income of $67.7 million, or $0.76 per diluted share in 2010.
John McCarvel, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated: “The past 12-months were a period of terrific growth and important progress for our Company. In 2011, we grew annual sales 27% to surpass $1 billion for the first time ever. The success of existing and new product introductions drove improvements in our average selling price in addition to strong organic growth from channel & geographic expansion. As we move forward through 2012, we are confident that our long-term strategies will continue to deliver meaningful market share gains in spring and summer while also increasing our relevance during the cold weather season.”
Year-over year fourth quarter changes in the Company’s channel and regional revenue streams were as follows:
- Wholesale sales increased 6% to $104.1 million;
- Retail sales increased 24% to $74.1 million;
- Internet sales increased 17% to $25.5 million;
- Americas increased 10% to $103.6 million;
- Asia increased 22% to $76.1 million;
- Europe increased 6% to $24.0 million.
Gross profit for the fourth quarter of 2011 increased 16% to $99.8 million, or 49.0% as a percentage of sales, from $86.3 million, or 48.2% of sales in same period last year. Selling, General, & Administrative expenses (SG&A) increased 17% to $94.9 million versus $81.1 million a year ago. As a percentage of sales, SG&A increased to 46.6% from 45.3% in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Year-over year annual changes in the Company’s channel and regional revenue streams were as follows:
- Wholesale sales increased 24% to $598.4 million;
- Retail sales increased 32% to $306.7 million;
- Internet sales increased 28% to $95.9 million;
- Americas increased 19% to $448.0 million;
- Asia increased 34% to $381.8 million;
- Europe increased 34% to $171.2 million.
Gross profit for 2011 increased 27% to $536.4 million or 53.6% as a percentage of sales, from $423.8 million, or 53.7% of sales in 2010. Selling, General, & Administrative expenses increased 18% to $402.8 million versus $342.1 million a year ago. As a percentage of sales, SG&A decreased to 40.2% from 43.3% in 2010.
“The combination of strong sales growth and our ability to effectively manage costs created 310 basis points of operating expense leverage in 2011,” said John McCarvel.
Balance Sheet
Cash and cash equivalents at December 31, 2011 increased 77% to $257.6 million compared to $145.6 million at December 31, 2010. Inventories at December 31, 2011 were $129.6 million, up 7% compared to inventories at December 31, 2010 of $121.2 million.
Backlog
Backlog at December 31, 2011 increased 19% to $307.4 million compared to backlog of $258.4 million at December 31, 2010.
Guidance
For the first quarter of 2012, the Company expects revenue to be in the range of $263 to $268 million and diluted earnings per share to be between $0.24 and $0.26. This guidance is based on an effective tax rate of 24%.

New styles developed with world – renowned golf instructor Hank Haney
Crocs, Inc. (NASDAQ: CROX) today announced a new golf line designed in partnership with international-recognized golf instructor Hank Haney. The Crocs Golf Hank Haney collection will launch in the spring of 2012 and feature a number of men’s and women styles that can be worn both on and off the course.
The new collection strikes the perfect of utmost comfort for which Crocs shoes are known, with technical engineering for the casual golfer. Each of the four Crocs Golf Hank Haney styles were designed with input from Haney based on his experience over the past 35 years instructing more than 200 touring professionals from the PGZ, LPGA, Champions, European, Japanese, Australian and Asian tours.
Crocs Golf with Hank Haney provides an alternative to traditional golf shoes for the recreational play. All of the styles feature Croslite™ material midsoles that provide form-to-feet cushioning not found in any other golf shoe.
The new styles in the Crocs Golf with Hank Haney collection include:
Preston (HK$858, size M7 – M12) Featuring premium water-resistant leather upper and classic styling, this shoe offers players a lightweight design that increases flexibility. The Preston will be available in Espresso/white, Black/White and White/Parrot Green.
